JOHN THOMAS COBB John Thomas Cobb, 73, Gravois Mills, MO, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, September 6, 2017. John was born Feb. 25, 1944 in Kansas City, MO, and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1962. On Aug. 5, 1966, he married the love of his life, Sherry Elaine Dolstein. They shared over 51 years of marriage at the time of his death. He proudly served in the United States Army, National Guard and then graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1968. John and Sherry moved to Houston, TX, in 1972 and started a successful family business, Cobb's Drapery Cleaners, which they owned and operated until 2015. After retirement, they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. Long known for his positive outlook on life, his sense of humor, and his random acts of kindness for others, John loved his family first and foremost, his lake property on Lake Travis in Austin, TX, snow skiing in the mountains, the outdoors, baseball, coaching his daughters in sports, his many beloved dogs over the years, conservative politics, and all things Texas. His family and friends were very dear to him. John is survived by his wife Sherry; daughter Ashley Phelan and husband Tom of Walnut Creek, CA; and daughter Whitney Zisman and husband Stan of Houston, TX. John is survived by sister, Carol Wheeler and husband Paul of Kansas City, MO; his brother-in-law David Dolstein and wife Kathi of Hot Springs, AR; his uncle Donald McCoy of Lee's Summit, MO; and his mother-in-law Marian Dolstein of Gravois Mills, MO. John was blessed with nine grandchildren: Reagan and Robert Clark of Houston, TX; Mary Madison, Tommy, and Caroline Phelan of Walnut Creek, CA; Meg and Blake Zisman of Houston, TX; Olivia Zisman of Austin, TX; and Ryan Zisman of Kansas City, MO; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty and Thomas Cobb. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Shawnee Bluff Vineyard in Eldon, MO. A private family burial will be held at the Versailles, MO, Cemetery. John was the boy next door.  One of the best.  Good hearted, fun, family man, and hard worker.  He and Sherry are dear friends. She was the best partner on earth for him.  They have lovely daughters and grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed.
