FYI - The Committee is planing on honoring all of the deceased Classmates.  We will have their pictures on a poster board set up in the entrance to the ballroom.  Please let us know if you have other ideas to honor their lives.

I attend church in Renton, WA with Cleo Dunlap Sargent - widow of Dick Dunlap (history). She'd be thrilled if you had a fun story about Dick. She told me their family got our school Christmas tree after we left for the Christmas vacation! And it was always huge for their house and had to be cut shorter! She said she and their two girls would be watching for him to arrive home with that big tree tied to the top of the car. He and Cleo moved to Samish Island, WA (Bow, WA) when he retired from teaching. He lived in Independence when he was our teacher. Cleo was a teacher, also. Their girls were still home when he retired and both reside here in WA State still. I think his last years of teaching were at Graceland University where he'd attended himself. I'm not positive on that, though. His Graceland career may have been earlier. Cleo sure has a warm spot in her heart for NKCHS because of all of the nice things Dick said about us.

Laurene St. John (Ackerman)

Wanted to update you on what's going on in our lives, Bill and Laurene (St. John) Ackerman.  We sold our home in Mooresville, NC as of July 10th and have moved into our motor home full time.  This has been a dream of ours for many years and amazingly has come true!  I've updated my profile now with the correct email address (we do have email in the RV) and mailing address which happens to be our daughter in Durham.  Our cell phones are our only phone connection and they are 704-502-8042, me, and  704-502-8072, Bill.

We will be at the reunion and staying at the Argosy on the 21st and 22nd.  Sure hope to see lots of you there!

When I was trying to find out if our class of 1962 was planning to get together for our 50th, I didn't find anything listed under alumni reunions for 1962 on the NKCHS site. I emailed the site and they refered me to this site.

Do you think it would be helpful to add this sites address to the NKCHS site?

Looking forward to our reunion and seeing everyone.

(Sorry, not sure how to add an updated picture.)

We sure aren't a chatty group! And to think I was always getting in trouble for talking in class or passing notes.

I'd like to shout out a word of appreciation to the reunion planning committee. What a monumental job you've done over the years. Thank you! My neighbor told me that at her 40th they were told there wouldn't be anymore reunions! The committee said it was just too much work for them.

My husband, Roy's, Bremerton High School class has picnics every summer! They started that right after the 50th Reunion. No picnic this year because they celebrated the 55th in the normal country club fashion. We attended and had a wonderful time. I want to share a little story concerning our attending this reunion. I wasn't privy to this information ahead of time, but Roy's brother had run into one of Roy's classmates some time back and she told Roy's brother that she had liked Roy in high school!! Big surprise to my clueless husband, but now he had it in his mind that he was going to attend the 55th and was hoping she'd be there. Roy first found her husband with the help of miniscule nametags, and asked him where she was. Off he went to find her with me barely able to keep up! This lovely woman reached out to hug Roy, but sloshed her martini in the process. I said, "Here. Let me hold your drink while you hug properly." She handed it to me, soggy though it was, and there I stood holding her drink while these two tall people hugged! I'm still only 5'! Priceless!!

The entire evening was fun! I heard so often: Did I know you in high school? Were you in band? Were you in Latin Club? Honor Club? Interestingly, most of the friends he found had been in Honor Club with him though Roy's deepest desire was to find his former jazz band friends. I understand that because my favorite classes were choir!

I hope everyone has as good a time as we did at Roy's 55th. Sadly, I have too many obligations here at home in Seattle and will have to miss coming after all. If I lived there, I wouldn't miss it for anything, and hope all of you who do live close will go!

Interesting!  I find it interesting that you had so much fun at his 55th and supported him but he seems to leave you out there alone.  HUH!!!!!  Bill  Fry  I'll miss seeing you as you were a great classmate1

Claudia, here's my remembrance of Mr. Dunlap.

Mr. Dunlap was one of those unforgettable teachers.  My favorite memory is from the first day of class when he stood with one foot on his chair and the other on his desk (not sure which one was his prosthesis!) and mimicked Christopher Columbus discovering the new world.  Quite a different experience from Miss Small!  Oh, and he was a deadly shot with an eraser.  Gale Triplet frequently slept in class and Mr. Dunlap always wakened him with an eraser to the forehead!

Jerry Livingston

I recently updated my profile by posting a picture of my folks and mentioning dad's passing.  I want to share a funny story concerning his obituary.  I have subbed in the Ashland, MO, schools for the last seven years and know most of the kids pretty well.  As a sub, I like to have fun in class and the kids respond accordingly.  The obit came out in Wednesday's paper, 8/29, followed by the funeral on Friday.  Due to the circumstances, I did not sub that week.  Friday evening, my son's wife said she got a call from a 4th grade teacher who said the kids thought it was me who passed and a lot of tears were being shed.  In fact, some of the kids made a poster that said, "Rest In Peace Mr. Livingston".  I subbed at the high school the following Monday and all day students came up to me to let me know they too, thought I had died.  I'm not on FaceBook, but evidently my death and subsequent undeath was bouncing all around FaceBook and Twitter.  I guess it is nice to know I would have been missed although I am a little concerned they evidently  thought I was 90.      Jerry

Your referance to the picture of your dad indicates that maybe you're working too hard still if they thought it was you!!!!!!

How many of us were there in our class? As I look at the pictures, I think that I must have never met, seen, or been in any class with some of the people! I hope others have better memories than I do! And I hope everyone has a great time at the Reunion!

I too wonder how big our class was.  I understood at one time that we had about 570 people to graduate in our class, but never really knew the actual figures.  Does anyone really know the real number?  Sorry we won't be able to join everyone in the reunion, but hope everyone has a great time.

I've gotten it into my head that there were over 600 of us graduating in 1962 from NKCHS. I always told people there were about 650! How close was I?

The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, graduated from NKCHS some years after our graduation and married his high school sweetheart whose last name was Holland. I wonder if she is related to Sandra Holland. I found out the tidbit on Wikipedia while trying to find out how many people there were in our graduating class.

Claudia, if you want to know the numbers on our class read the right side of the website home page .  It indicates the active classmates for our year and the inactive ones.  Also it shows the location of the found people as well as the not found ones.   FYI

I get 549 graduating 1962 NKCHS using Mr. Fry's advice that I look at the right side of the 'Home Page'. Designing websites must be such a challenge!! Good job! But, still, over 600 sticks someplace in my brain for all of these years. And Chuck comes up with a number over 600!

One way or the other, it is a lot of people!

The differance is the DECEASED are not in the numbers on the front page.   FYI

Rich and Billy,

Although I won't be at the reunion, I want to thank you for all your efforts in setting up this site and facilitating the reunion.  It wouldn't have happened without you guys.

You enabled communications for us with classmates that for some, we hadn't seen or communicated with in 50 years or more.

Anyway, thanks again.  Job well done!

Hope all have a great time.

Dave

Rich and Billy;

I have to agree with Dave Love.  You have done a fabulous job with this website.  I am, like Dave, unable to attend the reunion, but I do applaud your efforts in providing good communication between all of us classmates.  Thank You so very much.

Jim Hibbard

We also want to say thanks for coordinating this reunion and setting up this site.  It is such fun looking at our pictures again and reading what others have done over 50 years.  Great job!
